Letter to Parents: Strike Action

27th Jan 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

Assalaam-alaikum.

Industrial Strike Action – Wednesday 1st February, Tuesday 28th February, Wednesday 15th March, Thursday 16th March 2023.

You will be aware from media reports that the National Education Union (NEU) will be taking part in industrial (strike) action on the above dates. The first day of strike action is Wednesday 1st February. This national action is in response to a dispute between the NEU and the government, and not Feversham Girls’ Academy.

I am writing to let you know the arrangements for Wednesday 1st February at Feversham Girls’ Academy. We are aware that a number of our teaching staff will potentially be participating in this strike action and therefore have considered all options before deciding that it is not possible to run our normal school provision whilst providing a safe environment for pupils and staff. The school will therefore be open to the following pupils only on Wednesday 1st February:

  • All pupils in Years 10, 11 and 13. School buses will run as normal and can be used by the pupils who usually use this service.
  • A small group of other pupils (parents will be contacted by their daughter’s SSO separately by Monday 30th January).

The school will not be open for Years 7, 8, 9 and 12 on Wednesday 1st February. Pupils in these year groups will have the opportunity to consolidate their learning independently by using the resources they already have and by accessing the following education platforms:

  • Sparx
  • Language Nut
  • BBC Bitesize
  • Oak National Academy

Any pupils in these year groups who are eligible for free school meals will be able to pick up a food parcel from the dining area on 31st January at the end of the school day.

We will keep these arrangements under review and notify you of any changes to future strike dates and arrangements. Thank you for your support and your understanding. Please be assured that Feversham Girls’ Academy remains committed to delivering high quality teaching to our pupils in a safe and secure environment.

Regards,

Ms S Muneer
Principal
