Transition Day Work Pack

Transition work is a programme of independent study set by subject teachers for students to complete during the summer before they begin Year 12.

The purpose of transition work is to help students develop the knowledge, skills and study habits needed for a successful start to their sixth form courses. It bridges the gap between GCSE and A Level (or equivalent) study, ensuring that students begin Year 12 with the strongest possible foundation.

Completing the transition work will:

  • Refresh and build on key subject knowledge from GCSE.
  • Introduce important concepts and skills that will be covered in the first few weeks of the course.
  • Prepare students for the pace and expectations of sixth form study.
  • Ensure students are well prepared for the baseline assessment, which takes place in the fourth week of Year 12.

Students who complete the transition work are much more likely to settle quickly into their courses and keep up with the demands of Year 12. Those who do not complete the work often find it difficult to keep pace with the fast-moving curriculum and may struggle to achieve their full potential from the outset.

We strongly encourage all students to complete every task set by their subject teachers before the start of the autumn term.
